Student Band Council Representatives ~ Duties & Responsibilities
Band President:
- High Energy Level ~ At band council meetings and when in band.
- Listen ~ To all the ideas of the all of the band members.
- Lots of Confidence ~ Show that you know what you're doing. After all, the band is depending on you to do your job.
- Be Sensitive to Others ~ Take into consideration the needs of the entire band.
- Be Willing to Fail ~ Don't dwell on mistakes... they happen. Just try to avoid them.
- Have a Good Sense of Humor ~ Keep things light and fun.
- Be Optimistic ~ People look to you to tell them that everything's going to be okay. If you can't they are going to question why they listen to pessimistic people.
- Avoid Comparisons ~ No one is the same. Deal with it in a decent manner.
- Care & Share ~ You need to provide a friendly, supportive atmosphere for the students.
Section Leaders:
- High Energy Level ~ Especially during sectionals. Keep people positive and interested in rehearsal.
- Listen ~ It is important that you listen to all of the students in your section and hear out their ideas... who knows, they just might help things run smoother.
- Show Self Confidence ~ If you have faith in yourself, it makes it a little easier for the students in your section to believe in you too.
- Be Sensitive to Others ~ Make sure that, as much as possible, the needs of ALL students in your section are met.
- Be Willing to Fail ~ When you make mistakes, just brush it off. If you dwell on it, the people in your section will too.
- Have a Good Sense of Humor ~ Keep the situations light and don't take criticism too personally.
- Avoid Comparisons ~ There will always be people on different playing levels. Try your hardest to accommodate all.
- Caring & Sharing ~ Help the section get along with each other and provide a happy, supportive environment.
Band Representative:
- High Energy Level ~ Be constructive and active at band council meetings.
- Listen ~ Take all of the students' ideas to the band council meetings and make sure they're heard.
- Be Sensitive to Others ~ Make sure everyone knows that their ideas are valid and try to accommodate everyone.
Drum Major:
- High Energy Level ~ Keep the band's spirits up even on rainy days and when they're tired.
- Know How to Listen ~ Provide comfort and support and problem solve at times by listening.
- Have Tons of Self Confidence ~ If you don't believe in yourself, the band will have a difficult time believing you as well.
- Be Sensitive to Others ~ Always acknowledge others' feelings and try to keep everyone happy.
- Be Willing to Fail ~ When you make a mistake, don't get the band in a frenzy; just correct yourself and continue.
- Have a Sense of Humor ~ Don't take things too personal. Just have fun and laugh when appropriate.
