  • Being a part of the "Tradition of Excellence" is a must have high school experience, it's a lot of fun, builds character, and looks great on your college applications!

  • We'll help YOU put BAND in your high school schedule!
Here are some other reasons why YOU should be a part of the renowned Auburn High School Band program!

  • It's FUN!  Trust us... ask anyone who's participated in Band at Auburn ~ BAND "rocks"!
  • We're a family, especially for new freshmen.  Marching Band is the best way to start high school!  By the time you show up for your first day of classes in September, you will have already made friends with over 40 upper underclassmen.   It makes the transition to high school amazingly easy.  You'll be surprised how good it feels to walk into Band and feel at home!
  • Fun trips!  The Auburn "Trojan" Marching Band performs at competitions every year, traveling all over the state to compete, along with performing at all home football games, including playoffs.  When our football team goes to State, so does the Marching Band.  Being a part of the excitement in a packed Tacoma Dome is like nothing else!  Trust us, you have to be there!
  • Our Pep Band plays at all home basketball games and playoffs too.  We've traveled to Hec Ed Pavilion on the UW campus and to the Tacoma Dome for playoff games.
  • Our Wind Ensemble has traveled to Washington, D.C. to perform at the National Adjudicator's Invitational and most recently performed at the Heritage Festival in San Francisco.
  • Our Jazz Band competes in multiple jazz festivals, including the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho.
  • Band builds leadership!  Our band students learn how to be the "Best" they can be, in and out of the classroom.  Our Marching Band gives section leaders leadership opportunities galore!  It's recognized that band students are among the best students at AHS.  Band students score higher on SAT tests too.
  • There are lots of choices.  Band classes include Percussion,  (learn to play drums), Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Wind Ensemble (audition only) and the award winning Auburn High School "Trojan" Marching Band.  All of these opportunities are available to you NOW!

We're looking forward to your participation in the Band Program. Talk to your friends and parents and plan to join us!  Counselors will help you put BAND into your schedule!

Letter to Future Freshman

Dear Band Students,

The time is fast approaching when you will be scheduling classes for next year.  We know you understand the satisfaction of doing something well.  Auburn Senior High School BAND will provide you enriching experiences that will benefit you throughout your life.  The personal discipline and commitment will pay off many times over.

There are many reasons why a student should seriously consider continued participation in Band.

  • Band is a unique class where students learn to work together for a common goal and experience the importance of teamwork.
  • They learn to respect their peers and build friendships as they develop their playing skills and perform successful concerts.
  • The self-discipline required affects all areas of a student’s future and helps you work to set and achieve goals, both important life skills.
  • Music students typically score higher on college entrance exams such as the SAT.
  • Many colleges offer scholarships to instrumental players, for both music major and the non-music major.
  • The recognition that a student feels in successfully playing an instrument helps him/her grow in self-confidence.  This results in a healthy self-esteem and feeling of personal worth, which are critical for life’s future challenges.
  • Band participation opens many doors for a student and helps them prepare for the future.

The scheduling of classes is a complicated process and it sometimes may appear that required courses leave no room for electives.  However, there is usually a workable solution, see the scheduling guidelines.  We want you to enjoy the positive growth of personal self-esteem and self-image during your educational career.  Group participation is the key to making this a reality, and there is nothing that brings out the sense of personal contribution quite like being in the Band. You have made a great investment in your instrument and there are many exciting benefits still ahead.

We are your partners in seeing that you have the opportunity to continue your musical development.
